Podcastgyár App

The starting point: rethinking radio listening for the digital age

Our client, TrendFM, one of Hungary's leading business and culture radio stations, wanted to build a comprehensive digital solution in response to changing media consumption habits.

The goal was a radio and podcast app that lets listeners stream the live broadcast online, gives structured access to the station's own podcasts, removes the limits of FM coverage and strengthens the brand's digital presence.

The result is the Podcastgyár app, available on both iOS and Android.

Strategy and design: a UX- and content-first approach

From day one, we worked closely with the client and fit the app into a long-term digital and marketing strategy.

  • Research: Analysis of Hungarian and international podcast/radio apps
  • Design steps: Wireframes, UI design, interactive prototype, information architecture
  • UX direction: Tile-based browsing that's easy to scan

An important design goal was for the app to match Podcastgyár's existing brand while offering a modern, standalone digital experience that follows patterns users already know.

During development, we paid special attention to:

  • the system's core features include live radio streaming on mobile,
  • management of podcast channels and episodes, plus browsing by category and topic,
  • saving favorites and commenting to increase user engagement,
  • a player with timeline navigation, seeking, skipping back and quick episode switching,
  • a user system that requires registration (except for the live stream), with email, Google and Facebook sign-in,
  • a web-based admin panel where the editorial team can:
  • manage content and podcasts,
  • administer users,
  • send notifications and publish new episodes quickly.

We built the front end and back end in parallel, paying special attention to stable audio streaming, scalability and real-time operation.

Testing: real-world usage scenarios

During testing, we paid special attention to the user experience and system stability.

Key validation and QA steps:

  • Continuous internal QA testing
  • Validation together with the client
  • Parallel usage tests with 20+ users

Testing focus areas:

  • Verifying operation in a real environment
  • Checking stability under heavier load
  • Eliminating bugs in critical playback paths

The goal was for the system to run reliably in a real environment, even under heavier load.

Results: expanding digital reach

With the launch of the app, TrendFM's content became available through a new digital channel, independent of FM coverage.

  • Listen from anywhere, independent of FM coverage
  • Structured, on-demand content consumption
  • Growing audience reach on a new digital platform

Along with positive feedback from the client, the project laid the groundwork for further digital development.

What's next

Further development will focus on a more personalized listening experience and better use of content.

Focus areas for the next phase:

  • A personalized recommendation system
  • More advanced analytics
  • Expanded community features

Goal: To build a comprehensive media platform that supports digital growth over the long term.
